Photograph of a large round clock, 34 inches in diameter, encased in the top of the staircase in a single family home at 1200 West 55th Street. Designed by Louis Curtiss and built in 1913 for Bernard Corrigan, it was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 as the Bernard Corrigan Residence.

Westminster Congregational Church Interior

Description

Interior photograph of a skylight and stained glass in the Westminster Congregational Church at the southwest corner of 36th and Walnut in the early 1980s. Construction began on the original section of building in May 1904, and it was opened and consecrated in 1907. An addition was added in 1912. The building was still home to the same church at the time of the photo, but the shrinking congregation voted to disband in July 1995.

Photograph of the Simpson House at 4509 Walnut Street in the early 1980s, showing a closer view of the arched front door and the approach to the door. The home was built in 1909 for Burnett Simpson and was occupied by the family until 1983, when it was acquired by the neighboring All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church for use as an event space and additional space for church activities.

The single-family home was converted around the time of this photograph into Upper Room Jesus Compassionate Minstries, a missionary center and emergency shelter. All houses and apartment buildings to its south on the block have been demolished.

Brovard to be a factory for Price Candy, and at the time of this photo was the home of the Foolkiller Theater collective until they sold the building in 1985.

The building, called Ambassador B, and its twin neighbor to the east, Ambassador A, were designed by local architect Nelle Peters and were built by the Ambassador Hotel to serve as overflow guest rooms in 1927 and were later used as apartments. Both buildings were razed in 2012.

Liberty Memorial

Close-up photograph of Liberty Memorial circa 1990. The photograph shows sculptural details, called Guardian Spirits, near the top of the memorial's tower. Four Spirits are depicted on the tower, and are called Honor, Courage, Patriotism, and Sacrifice. Built as a memorial to World War I, the monument and its attached museum were dedicated in 1926 and were designed by architect H. Van Buren Magonigle in Egyptian Revival style. Structural deterioration lead to the memorial being closed to the public in 1994. It was restored and reopened, with an expanded museum, in 2006.
