AbstractPhotos and article about the composition of the song "Home on the Range" at Smith Center, Kansas, in 1872 by Brewster Higley. Description of the song's origins being forgotten until the 1950s with actions by the Rotary Club and the state government of Kansas, restoring the Higley cabin as a historical monument and adopting the music as "the Kansas State Song."
