Brookside Hotel
TitleBrookside Hotel
DescriptionPostcard of the Brookside Hotel
Historical ArticleThe Brookside Hotel, 54th and Oak, was built in 1918 and formally opened for occupancy in October, 1919. For many years it was considered one of the better family hotels here. Conveniently nearby ran the Country Club street car line.

The hotel is said to have been patterned after Chicago's Edgewater Beach Hotel on Lake Michigan.

During World War II the property was used as quarters for Army Air Corps personnel attending Rockhurst College. After the war it again became a resident hotel.

The St. Paul School of Theology, Methodist, acquired the property in 1962 and used it as a dormitory for married students.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City became owners of the property in 1966 for a residence accommodating faculty and married students.

The old hostelry was renamed Treadway Hall, honoring Howard P. Treadway, an early-day benefactor of the university and a member of the board of trustees when he died in 1939.

The building at the right side on the old post card picture is part of the Second Presbyterian Church.
