| Description | Postcard of the University Club Building |
| Historical Article | Ten alumni of six colleges and universities met in November of 1900 to form the University Club. The group was incorporated in 1901 with Sanford B. Ladd, early-day attorney, as president. The next year the group began using the old S.B. Armour home at 1216 Broadway as a meeting place. By this time the membership had grown to 127.
Larger quarters were needed by 1906 and the club leased space in a building at 11th and Baltimore which served the group until the building was destroyed by fire in 1923.
Construction of a building was begun on four lots at 918 Baltimore and the two-story red brick structure with white wood trim was ready for occupancy the following year. The old post card picture of the building, showing flowers and vines trailing from second-story window boxes, was made at that time. Over the years additions and overhaulings, both interior and exterior, have been made.
Today E.F. Hutton & Co., investment brokers, leases street level and basement space. Club offices and the dining room occupy the second floor and private dining rooms are on the third floor. Squash courts occupy the fourth or rooftop floor.
The Nitwit shows, produced by club members, are given every other year.
The post card was published in color by the Allis Press, Kansas City.
