Bingham-Waggoner Residence

Description: Photos, illustrations, maps, and information on the Bingham-Waggoner Estate in Independence. Built about 1855 along the Santa Fe Trail as the residence of John Lewis before bought by artist George Caleb Bingham in 1864 (becoming the site of many of his paintings such as "Order Number 11") before being purchased by the neighboring Waggoner family (flour millers Peter Waggoner and William Waggoner) in 1879 and remodeled by architects Root and Siemens and decorator Henry Ohaus and later renovated as a historic site and public park in 1979.
