Keeping up with the Macy's

Cincinnati-based Federated Department Stores will takover the St. Louis-based May Department Stores Co., current owners of the Jones Store, and rename all the Jones stores to Macy's. Currently the Jones Stores are at Independence Center, Metcalf South Shopping Center, Metro North Shopping Center, Oak Park Mall, Prairie Village Shopping Center, and Town Center Plaza.

''The Jones Store traces its roots to 1890, when J. Logan Jones moved his three-year-old Stafford, Kan., store called the Cyclone to Kansas City, Kan., renaming it the Jones Dry Goods Co. Macy's also was a strong Kansas City area retailer, but it left the market in the mid-1980s.''
