Bennett Bridge Game Murder Trial, John V. Hill

Assistant prosecuting attorney, John V. Hill, opened final arguments for the state at the murder trial of Mrs. Myrtle Bennett. Mrs. Bennett shot and killed her husband John G. Bennett on September 29, 1929, in a quarrel over a bridge game. She was acquitted. Photo appeared in the "Kansas City Journal-Post," Thursday, March 5, 1931.

March 6, 1931, "Kansas City Journal-Post" features a photo of George Cauthen with this caption: "George Cauthen, Journal-Post photographer, who was cursed and struck by former Sen. James A. Reed last night after he had taken a picture in the criminal court room where the Bennett trial was held. Cauthen, who is 30 years old, made no attempt to strike back at Reed, who is 69." It is assumed from this that Cauthen was the photographer of the photographs of the Bennett trial.
