The Owl Drug Store, occupying two store buildings fronting on the west side of Main Street between 9th and 10th Streets, is shown on an old post card mailed from Kansas City July 12, 1907, to Miss Mame Slater at the Woodcroft Sanitarium, Pueblo, Colo. B.M.L., who sent the card, wrote, Right this way to get your ice-cream sodas. Another message on the card reads, Hope the collection is growing, apparently referring to a post card collection. The Owl Drug Store, in addition to its pharmaceutical business and soda fountain, was the ticket office and starting point for Seeing Kansas City tours by street car, which gave visitors a trip to scenic parks and boulevards and other places of interest in the area. The reverse side of the card gives an insight into the postal responsibilities of that day. In addition to the usual circular postmarks of Pueblo, Colo., and Kansas City, Mo., there is an oval postmark, evidently stamped by the mail clerk on the westbound train, which reads; Train late, mail delayed. How thoughtful--and all for a one-cent green postage stamp! The buildings pictured, along with the rest of the block on Main, was razed several years ago and is today occupied by Ten Main Center office building and garage. Kansas City Times July 25, 1980
