In 1975, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Janssen Place Historic District and on the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1980. It was built in 1900 for Joseph M. Bernardin of the Bernardin Lumber Company. Located in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

The buildings, along with all other buildings on the block bound by 47th Street, 46th Terrace, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Broadway, were demolished to make way for the Valencia Place office building project, the groundbreaking for which took place in November 1997.

Photograph of City Bank, at 1800 Grand Boulevard, circa 1980. The building opened as Grand Avenue Bank in 1976, and was designed by the Kivett & Myer architecture firm. The firm changed its name to City Bank and Trust Company in 1978. The Power and Light and Davidson buildings can also be seen in the background of the image, to the northwest.
