Two color panoramic postcard views of Camp Funston at Fort Riley, Kansas. The two different views are titled, "The Zone, Camp Funston, Kansas," and, "Panorama of Camp Funston, Kansas," and include buildings, soldiers, and cars. Each view consists of three panels of cards published by E. D. Zellner of Junction City, Kansas. The cards have been glued on canvas measuring 11 x 35 in. Constructed during the summer of 1917, Camp Funston was one of the largest training camps built in the U.S. during World War I.

Expedition to Powder River in 1865

The last item on this microfilm roll is handwritten notes by an unknown soldier who was a member of General Patrick E. Connor's command on the expedition to Powder River in 1865. This expedition was against the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho Indians who were raiding the Bozeman Trail in Wyoming. Jim Bridger was a guide. The major battle which resulted from the expedition was the Battle of Tongue River.

An Interview With Thelma L. Hollowell

Mrs. Thelma Hollowell was born in Lawrence, Kansas on July 4, 1909. She graduated high school at Lawrence and was a 1929 Home Economics graduate from the University of Kansas. At the time of the interview, she was married to retired Army officer Harry H. Hollowell, a member of the 10th Cavalry, Buffalo Soldiers. In the interview she recounts her ancestry starting with her grandparents, military life, and incidents of racial discrimination that she remembers.
