From February to September of 1864, the 2nd Colorado Cavalry was assigned to patrol Bates, Cass, and Jackson Counties, Missouri, areas ravaged by Order Number 11. This article examines the reasons for the unit's success and gives numerous examples of contact made with guerrilla fighters in the area. Some reasons given for success include: soldiers had no long term animosity for Missouri residents, the men had time to learn the countryside, a wide range of military tactics were used, and the Colorado soldiers were capable fighters.

A short synopsis of the life of John Hall, one of Kansas City's earliest residents, and Hinton H. Noland, a prominent citizen in Independence as well as Kansas City. Hall came to Kansas City in 1857 and had built the Pacific House Hotel in the late 1850s. During the Civil War, the hotel was a military barracks, and in Room 20, Orders No. 10 and 11 were issued. Noland served many years in various court capacities mainly in Independence. Noland Road is named after him. Article includes names of immediate descendants.
