A “Table of Distances” gives miles from Westport to places like San Francisco; Salt Lake City; Astoria, Oregon; Santa Fe; etc. It notes population of Westport in 1846 as 300 and in 1855 as 1500. It includes an inset map of Missouri, beginning around Jefferson City, and Kansas, showing rivers and roads, especially the Salt Lake City and California road.

At the time of its publication, the map had an extensive key listing the numbered buildings, most of which has been removed. Steamboats traveling along the Missouri River can be seen. The map displays the steep bluffs and topography of the region. It also indicates Kansas City's expansion southward away from the Missouri River, the development of the stockyards industry in the West Bottoms and interconnectivity with the surrounding cities and towns that followed completion of the Hannibal Bridge in 1869.

Map created by the Kansas City Landmarks Commission as part of a 1980s Plaza Plan presentation, encompassing an area from State Line Road east to The Paseo, and from Westport Road and 39th Street south to 55th Street. Area plans, dealing with transportation, development, and zoning, among other factors, were developed over time for a number of Kansas City areas and are intended to provide guidance for their growth and design.
