Grand Avenue
-
Description
-
Article about the origins of Grand Avenue in the road built by Peter Roi (also known as Peter Roy) to his river ferry in the 1820s-1830s. Grand Avenue was the first outlet from the river front that bridged the gap between Westport Landing and old Westport, sharing this honor with Main Street, its companion highway, which was cut through the cliffs of clay and limestone at a later date.
