Originally organized as a school in 1852 by Reverend Nathan Scarritt at 40th and Washington Streets prior to the formation of the Kansas City School District.

Article discussing proposals made to the Kansas City Public Schools for the empty Westport High School and Westport Middle School. The plans call for converting the schools into market-rate apartments, buildings for independent senior housing, or to reuse Westport High School as a private school and the middle school as a center for nonprofit organizations. Both schools, along with 28 others, were closed in 2010 due to declining enrollment.
