The Kansas City Stockyards operated in the West Bottoms of Kansas City from 1871 to 1991. It was the second largest stockyards in the nation and one of Kansas City's most important industries. This collection documents the natural and built environment of the Kansas City Stockyards and West Bottoms from 1828-1983. It is a mostly oversized collection of blueprints, maps, architectural drawings, land abstracts, photos, and correspondence.

Article describes efforts "to build a new hub for creative culture" in the West Bottoms beginning with the opening of the new Bill Brady Gallery in the former Daily Drovers Telegram Building (1505 Genesee Street). Gallery owners Bill Brady and John O'Brien, along with West Bottoms developers Bill Haw and Bill Haw, Jr., are collaborating to rebrand the area and attract "creative class" businesses. Other tenants scheduled to move into the space at 15th and Genesee include Amigoni Urban Winery and KEM architects

This collection contains 388 items in black and white with 121 photographs and 267 glass slides. The glass slides were prepared as instructional material for the Kansas City, Missouri School District by their Department of Visual Instruction. Subjects include Kansas City as well as the state of Missouri. The Kansas City related slides include local buildings, sculpture, charitable organizations, parks, streets, the stockyards, and other famous landmarks. Each slide includes a typed identification and some are dated. Those dated are generally from 1935 to 1940.
