Photo and bio of John Bryant, a businessman in various industries, born in Independence in 1855, starting his career in Kansas City with "Matt, Foster and Company, dealers in books and stationery on Main street" following the grasshopper plague, then engaging in 1875 in the livestock industry at the Stockyards as a bookkeeper, working for a hardware company in 1890, and changing this business in 1907 into "Hunter & Bryant, fire insurance and real-estate dealers."

Photo and bio of John Calvin McCoy, Jr., or John McCoy, Jr. (1853-1905), former "president of the Stock Yards Exchange," commission merchant at the Kansas City Stockyards, and son of John Calvin McCoy, Sr., "a surveyor of the early days, surveying both the old town of Kansas City and Westport." Description of John Jr.'s life and career as a native Kansas Citian starting out as a farmer in Jackson County before becoming "a bookkeeper for the grain firm of Vaughn & Company" and later "a live-stock dealer." Married to "Miss Florida Mason, a daughter of Luther and Martha Mason, both natives of Kentucky, whence they came to Jackson county, Missouri, at an early day, settling near Blue Springs upon a farm, which is still known locally as the Luther Mason farm."
