Jay Dillingham, local civic leader and former president of the Kansas City Stockyards (1948-1975), died at the age of 97 on August 13, 2007. Dillingham was born March 8, 1910, in Platte City, Missouri. In 1935 he married Frances Thompson, daughter of a founder of the American Royal. After graduating from the Kansas City School of Law in 1935, he went to work at the stockyards and became president in 1948. His legacy includes the growth and reputation of the American Royal, the city's expansion and the Platte County location of the airport, securing federal projects for the area including highway construction, etc.
