KC District Loses Its Bid for State Accreditation
-
Description
-
Kansas City Public Schools will remain unaccredited for at least another year as the Missouri Board of Education opted not to take action on a request for provisional accreditation. Although progress toward accreditation was acknowledged, a reported 7 out of every 10 students in the Kansas City School district did not score proficient in reading and math. Officials in nearby school district now worry that those Kansas City students will transfer to accredited schools, as allowed by a 1993 law.

Board Approves K-8 System

Several African American School Board members have voiced concern over the K-8 model--and that School Superintendent, Anthony Amato, has provided insufficient data in terms of how the new plan will impact predominately African American schools in the 3rd and 5th districts.
