Federal money has been applied for to develop the Benton/St. John intersection where the stone marker bearing tribute to Thomas Hart Benton sits. "Planners aim to improve the 'geometrics' of the intersection, incorporate pedestrian elements and also create some kind of gateway feature that would signal the entrance to the St. John Corridor, the KC Museum and the Cliff Drive Scenic Byway."

"About a year ago, residents, business owners and others from the community approved 'option c' from a set of possible plans for making the intersection of Benton and Gladstone boulevards (including St. John Avenue) safer for pedestrians and easier for motorists to navigate the right-of-way. Plans also call for enhancement of the Sen. Thomas Hart Benton memorial stone and plaque at the center of the existing traffic circle."
