[Dallas Texans owner Lamar] Hunt decided to move his club. Hunt liked the Kansas City spirit and the humorous and effective intermediary, Kansas City Mayor H. Roe Bartle. When Hunt brought his team to Municipal Stadium for the 1963 season, he considered keeping the original name. But he soon realized Kansas City Texans" would grate on local ears, and chose a new name which in part honored Mayor Bartle, whose colleagues called him "the Chief."
