Announcement of a new elementary school at 3400 Highland Avenue to be "named the C. A. Franklin school" after Chester Franklin (1880-1955), or C. A. Franklin, an early Kansas City civil rights activist and founder of the Kansas City Call paper, "champion[ing] the right of Negroes [or black people] to serve on juries, to live in any neighborhood and to have adequate job and educational opportunities," with his widow residing at 1717 East 18th Street.
