Biographical article about William L. Dawson, composer of the ''Negro Folk Symphony,'' to be conducted by him for a concert at Shawnee Mission East High School. Dawson was born in 1898 in Alabama and became a music student in Topeka, Kansas, and then at the Horner Fine Arts School in Kansas City in the 1920s. He also "served as director of music at Lincoln high school" from 1922 to 1926. "The 'Negro Folk Symphony' was first performed in 1934 th[r]ough the good offices of Leopold Stokowski, who then led the Philadelphia Orchestra."
