He was born in Baldwin, Kansas, in 1864 and came to Kansas City in 1884 as a civil engineer, becoming connected with "the Santa Fe and other railroads" and "with the Kansas City Cable Street Railway construction." In 1896 he became the "engineer to take the topography of Swope Park".
