The Missouri Mavericks, a Central Hockey League Kansas City team, won their first game played at the new Independence Events Center. The Mavericks "made a successful home debut by defeating the Wichita Thunder 3-2 in a shootout that thrilled 5,760 hockey-starved fans at the $68 million arena in eastern Jackson County." The design of the arena, 16 rows to the top "capped by 25 suites and luxury seats" made fans comment that there wasn't a bad seat in the house. And parking is free.
