Description of the federal building officially called the U.S. Customs House & Post Office, at 9th and Walnut Streets. Under construction in 1879, opened on August 29, 1885. Site cost $8,500, total cost reportedly $325,000. Three-story gray sandstone structure with two towers and an ornamental iron fence bordering on two sides with the Town Clock in one of its towers. Building razed in 1930 to make way for the new Fidelity Bank Building. The building was sold to the Fidelity Bank & Trust Company for $260,000.
