Article details the life of Seth E. Ward, 1820-1903, pioneer trader and freighter on the old Santa Fe Trail. Also a resident of Westport. He came to this area in June of 1838 and went on to western travels as a trapper, learning the Indian ways. Robert Campbell helped him later to establish himself as an independent trader and Ward set up a successful freighting business in Westport. Article describes the contents of Ward's papers held at the Wyoming Historical Department and includes a photo of Ward and some of his correspondance and articles of agreement.

Description of Martha Harrelson of Sibley, married in 1857 and dying in 1874 as the mother of May Richards, "the widow of John G. Waples [or John Waples] of Fort Worth, Texas." Mention of Lucia Durfee of Leavenworth, married in 1877 and dying in 1906.
