The schools in question include Van Horn High School, Clifford H. Nowlin Middle School, and Fairmount, North Rock Creeek/Korte, Mount Washington, Sugar Creek, and Three Trails elementaries. "All are in Independence or Sugar Creek."

Voters Back Plan to Switch 7 Schools

Voters in both the Kansas City School District and the Independence School District voted overwhelmingly to move seven schools located in western Independence, Missouri, from the Kansas City School District into the Independence one. The schools are within the city limits of Independence and Sugar Creek. In Kansas City the vote was 13,576 to 7,015. The Independence portion voted 5,880 to 152 while the Independence district voted in favor 10,173 to 1,918. The change won't occur until the end of the school year. Van Horn High School is included in the switch. State Senator Victor Callahan was behind bringing the issue to a vote.
