Article features Sarajane S. Aber and her association with the Kansas City Rose Society. She has been a member of the organization for 30 years with 22 of those years as rose garden chairwoman. The society is preparing for its 75th anniversary celebration on June 4, 2006, in Loose Park. "The Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden, which covers more than an acre at Loose Park, and the Rose Society were created in 1931." The article goes on to say "In 2002 nearly $1 million was raised by the society to build a new fountain and surrounding walkways. But, for the most part, the garden physically has not changed much from the plan what was drawn up by the city in 1931, Aber said".

Restoring a Garden Treasure

The rose garden at Loose Park will undergo its first major renovation in its history. It was establsihed in 1931. The "new and imporved version of the garden--one that hews closely to the plan of tis legendary designer--will be unveiled next spring." The garden was designed by S. Herbert Hare. The original blueprint, found in the city's parks department archives, will guide the renovation.
