-
Description
-
A ceremony on May 4, 2008, commemorates the 45th anniversary of the dedication of the Memorial to the Six Million, an aluminum sculpture located on the Jewish Community Campus. The sculpture was originally dedicated on June 9, 1963, by Harry S. Truman. "The 10-foot-by-10-foot aluminum sculpture was commissioned and funded by the members of the New Americans Club--a group founded in 1958 by Holocaust survivors, most of whom had immigrated to Kansas City shortly after World War II." The monument was designed by Maurice Newman as a memorial to the six million European Jews murdered during the Holocaust. Article includes a picture of the sculpture.
