A ceremony to commemorate the opening of the new Kansas City Police Academy was held November 13, 2007. Speakers included Mayor Mark Funkhouser and Missouri Governor Matt Blunt. "The 132-acre facility at Pleasant Valley Road and Shoal Creek Parkway includes a 125,000-square-foot main building and a situational training building." Included with the facility is "a 500-seat auditorium, a 1.1-mile driving track, a suspended four-lane indoor track encircling a full-size basketball court, a 22,5000-square-foot indoor pistol range with 30 lanes and a 200-yard outdoor rifle range." The cost was $35 million. Includes a picture of the building and a map of its location.
