Missouri State Highway Patrol
-
Description
-
A look at Missouri's State Highway Patrol, its different divisions, besides maintaining safety on Missouri roads, like the canine unit, drug and crime enforcement, etc. Before becoming a trooper, recruits study for six months, in a combination of classroom and on location training that involves "grueling practical exercises." "Beginning in 1923, the Missouri State Legislature debated the creation of either a statewide traffic regulatory agency or a state policy agency. Finally, in April 1931, Senate Bill 36 established a state patrol, which became effective September 14 of that year." The patrol started with only 55 officers, 36 Model A Ford Roadsters, and 17 motorcycles.
