The Kansas City Stockyards operated in the West Bottoms of Kansas City from 1871 to 1991. It was the second largest stockyards in the nation and one of Kansas City's most important industries. This collection documents the natural and built environment of the Kansas City Stockyards and West Bottoms from 1828-1983. It is a mostly oversized collection of blueprints, maps, architectural drawings, land abstracts, photos, and correspondence. Some items from this collection have been digitized and are available to view in the "Stockyards" Digital Collection, http://www.kchistory.org/digital-collections.

This paper includes an introduction, timeline (1853-2005) for the Kansas City and Cameron Railroad, and various supporting references for the timeline. The references include photocopies of Web sites, newspaper clippings, hand drawn diagrams, maps, advertisements, photographs, etc. The main focus is railroad service through Clay County, Missouri, with some general information concerning the initial nineteenth-century railroad development in this area to its demise in the mid-twentieth century. Includes information on the Hannibal Bridge, train doodlebugs, the Burlington train depot in Liberty, Missouri (1906-1979), and photographs of what currently remains of the Chandler depot just northwest of Liberty. According to the timeline, the Kansas City and Cameron Railroad became the Kansas City, Galveston, and Lake Superior Railroad, then the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad, and eventually the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.
