Part one of a two part series examining the future of the Saint Paul School of Theology campus at 5123 E. Truman Road. The school is relocating to Leawood, KS this fall after 47 years at its current location, leaving vacated three residence halls, a chapel, library, and other buildings. The Kansas City Coalition Against Sexual Exploitation (KC CASE) is in negotiation to purchase the 217,000 square foot campus and convert it into a transitional housing and counseling center for victims of sexual exploitation.

KCPS to Demolish Thacher Elementary School this Summer

Article reports on plans to demolish the former Thacher Elementary School building at 5008 Independence Avenue. The school closed in 2010, and in 2011 the building suffered damaged from an arson fire. Although some Northeast residents want to repurpose the school building, a decision was made to demolish it due to safety and vandalism concerns. The former McCoy Elementary School at 1524 White Avenue could also be razed due safety concerns raised by the Blue Valley Neighborhood Association.

The goal for the newly acquired facility is to better serve the Latino community through programs and services, such as adding a charter elementary school, early childhood education center, senior housing, and adult education center.
