Article describes demographic shifts in Kansas City area public schools. The achievement gap between whites and minority students is focused upon. Representatives from various school districts are interviewed and describe changes being made to increase academic achievement amongst minority students. Erik Erazo, Hispanic student advisor for the Olathe School District, is interviewed and offers his opinions regarding the problems affecting Hispanic and Latino students in the Kansas City area. Charts illustrating the achievement gap and student diversity growth by district are included.
