Illustrations and information on Dr. Benoist Troost (1786-1859), the "first resident physician of Kansas City." Native of Holland (also known as the Netherlands) emigrating to Saint Louis in 1845 before moving to Independence, Missouri about 1846 and then Kansas City about 1847, building the Troost Hotel (later called the Gillis House hotel) with William Gillis on the Levee. Namesake of Troost Avenue and brother of noted geologist Gerard Troost (1776-1850) of Philadelphia.
