On July 1, 2005, the University of Health Sciences will change its name to Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. The University of Health Sciences has been in existence for 88 years. It plans to add a doctoral program in 2008 to prepare students for careers as scientific researchers. The University is ''one of eight key stakeholders in the Kansas City Life Sciences Institute, which also includes the Stowers Institute, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the KU Medical Center.''
