Obituary for James Crawford Ward, or James Ward, "considered one of the finest amateur golfers in Kansas City history" as holder of the course record at the Kansas City Country Club dying at the age of 72 in 1973. Born in Kansas City as a "son of the late Hugh Thompson Ward, for whom Ward Parkway is named [sic], and the late Mrs. A. Ross Hill, one of the founders of the Sunset Hill School and the former Country Day School."

Thanks to thriving business "because of its substantial involvement in the energy industry, designing projects for oil and natural gas exploration and distribution, power generation and the rebuilding of the nation's aging electrical transmission infrastructure," Burns & McDonnell has announced plans to hire 2,100 new employees in the next ten years. The company is also planning a $130 million addition to its headquarters on Ward Parkway. The construction would require demolishing the former Beth Shalom Synagogue building at 9400 Wornall Road.
