Virginia Harris Thornton Collection of Western Americana Preliminary Inventory

Mrs. Virginia Harris Thornton was the granddaughter of John Calvin McCoy, founder of the city of Westport. This collection, named in her honor, contains primarily books on Western Americana. Books were first donated to the Missouri Valley Room beginning in 1973 by the Westport Historical Society. This one folder collection includes correspondence concerning this gift of books. This correspondence is between the Missouri Valley Room department manager and different representatives of the Westport Historical Society. Also included are a list of the gift titles and three special Westport cachets. These books and others that have been added over the years are cataloged and added to Special Collections holdings.
