Photograph of the Kansas City Athenaeum building at the corner of Campbell St. and Linwood Boulevard circa 1981. The building, designed by architect Samuel Tarbet and opened in 1914, serves was the home for the Kansas City Women's Athenaeum Club, which was founded in 1894 and focused on cultural programming for local women. With club membership dwindling, the building was sold to the Kansas City alumnae chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority in 2015. The LaSalle apartment building, a 14-story building which served as apartments, a hotel, and senior housing and was demolished in 2001, can be seen to the east of the Athenaeum.

The LaSalle apartment building, seen in the photograph with the name Defenders' Townhouse, Inc., was a senior housing facility at 922 Linwood. The 14-story building also served as apartments and a hotel and was demolished in 2001.

Photograph of an alley on the south side of a building at 3251-3257 Main, on the southeast corner of Main Street and Warner Plaza, circa 1981. Signs advertise the House of Chun Chinese restaurant and the adjacent Kon Tiki Room tiki bar. The area, south of Linwood Boulevard to 34th Street, between Main and Gillham, was deemed blighted and ridden with crime in drugs in the late 1980s, and these buildings, as well as other homes, apartments, and commercial buildings, were demolished in the early and mid-'90s as part of the so-called "Glover Plan" to be replaced by the Midtown Marketplace development, a large commercial development anchored by big box retailers Home Depot and Costco.

Brovard to be a factory for Price Candy, and at the time of this photo was the home of the Foolkiller Theater collective until they sold the building in 1985.

The Armory

Photograph of the Armory building at 3620 Main Street, circa 1981. It served as a National Guard Armory for the 110th Engineers combat battalion starting in 1922 and until 1973. Around the time this photograph was taken, the facility served as a boxing venue and gym, and not long after became the Langer Automotive Museum.
