Plane's Devotees In a Tailspin
-
Description
-
The "Connie" airplane, a Lockheed Constellation located at the Wheeler Downtown Airport and part of the Airline History Museum can no longer fly. It was the last one in the United States that could fly. During a routine maintenance check on the ground, "cylinders in the No. 2 engine failed, spewing gallons of oil and fire that 'stuck like napalm' to the plane's metal skin, disfiguring the plane". It will cost more than $120,000 to rebuild the engine and finding the money may be a problem.
