New Renovations Hold Big Expectations
-
Description
-
Work is progressing on changing portions of the south bank of the Missouri River near the River Market area. It will involve restoring a portion of the area to the way it would have looked to early settlers, extending the Riverfront Heritage Trail near the ASB Bridge and enhancements near the overlook at the foot of Main Street. "The $1.2 million project is being supervised by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and will include a wetland surrounded by native trees and grasses, bisected by the heritage trail. A looping pathway off the trail will allow people to get deeper into the natural area, which will extend to and be visible from the Grand Boulevard viaduct." As many as 85 bird species have been identified along the river in this area including the great blue heron, the white-throated sparrow, and the bald eagle.
