Mention of the Chouteau family children and "several other children from the French settlement (on the river front)" including "the Jarboes" as students at the Catholic rectory school in 1836 Kansas City, on 12th Street and taught by father Benedict Roux, being "'[t]he only school in all this wild territory'" at the time, according to Caroline Amanda Smart, or Caroline Smart (also known as Mrs. E. P. Graves) in 1911 (from an interview of her "in the Kansas City Star, July 23, 1911").
