Photos and article about the history of the town of Council Grove, Kansas, a "famous crossing of the old Santa Fe Trail" since its first use as a crossing of the Neosho River in 1825 by Major George Sibley. Named for its role as a council place for Indians meeting for an 1825 treaty to allow the marking of the Santa Fe Trail under the shade of "the largest body of natural timber from here to the Rocky Mountains."
