Veteran Educator Dies At 89

Bernard C. Campbell who had one of the longest tenures of any school superintendent in the metro area died June 15, 2006, at the age of 89. He became head of the Lee's Summit schools in 1943 and didn't leave until 37 years later in 1980. "Taking over a district with about 600 students, Campbell guided it through a consolidation and saw the district grow to about 7,000 students by the time he retired." The Lee's Summit School District now has over 16,000 students.
