Article with photograph of the Lackman Thompson home, located at 11180 Lackman Road. This home was placed on the Register of Historic Kansas paces in 1992. In 1901 William Lackman started an interurban railway called the Kansas City and Olathe. His partner, Shawnee resident and former Johnson County Treasurer, David B. Johnson, ran off with the company funds.

Completed in 1913 and flourishing from then until the mid-1920s, the Interurban was made obsolete by private automobiles, buses and the Depression and ceased operation in 1933. Nonetheless, it played a key role in the development of Clay, Platte and Buchanan Counties.

Description of his transportation career, establishing the Strang Line or the Missouri and Kansas Interurban Railway from Kansas City, Missouri, to Olathe, Kansas, and points in-between (ending in 1940 as obsolete because of automobile proliferation), leading to the development of Overland Park, Kansas, and establishing Strang Aviation Park there in 1909.
