The "Castle's View" column features John Broski and his huge collection of fire department memorabilia. The collection includes a 300-pound fire hydrant sitting on his porch, fire trucks, hoses and nozzles, fire axes, alarm pull boxes, fire dogs, Smokey the Bear, etc. "Overland Park is trying to start a fire department museum at the Deanna Rose Farmstead. If they succeed, the Broski's wonderful collection may some day grace their shelves for all to see." Includes picture of Broski standing by part of his collection.

Thanks to Kansas City voters who approved a quarter-cent sales tax in August 2001, Fire Station 23 at 4777 Independence Ave. is the latest station to receive upgrades to make it a modern and comfortable facility. A rededication ceremony was held on December 12 for the $4 million project. Article tells what the improvements were to the station and includes a picture of the station.
