Lloyd Gaines, the former Missouri college student who disappeared nearly 70 years ago during a landmark legal struggle against segregation, has a new title: attorney at law. The state Supreme Court on Thursday awarded Gaines a posthumous law license at the Missouri Bar's annual convention, honoring the man who in 1938 successfully sued to gain admission to the all-white University of Missouri law school. Gaines disappeared before he could enroll at the university. He was last seen leaving a Chicago boarding house in 1939. Includes his picture.
