From Combat to Crime: The Famous Outlaw Got His Start Fighting Against the Union
-
Description
-
Short article which discusses the legend of Jesse James and the Robin Hood theme. Author contends that "the key to understanding the motives of the James gang--besides greed--is the Civil War, especially the vicious guerrilla combat within the larger war that plagued Missouri." After the war, James fought against the Republican Party that had freed the slaves. Many of the banks robbed after the war were owned by members of that party.
