Information on John Harris, a native of Kentucky born in 1795 and moving to Missouri in 1830, arriving in Westport about 1832 and building a log cabin about 1844 around Broadway and Westport Roads, the site of many Western travelers' meetings. Description of his house built in 1855 at Westport and Main Streets, called the Harris home and afterwards used as a hotel and called the Harris House hotel, with a photo of it after being moved for preservation to 40th and Baltimore Avenues about 1933.
