Judge Cordell D. Meeks, Jr., who served on the Wyandotte County District Court was found dead on June 28, 2006. His father, Cordell D. Meeks, Sr., was the first African-American District court judge in Kansas. Cordell Meeks, Jr., served on the boards of numerous groups and civic organizations. "In 1999 he became the first African-American to serve on the board of the Truman Museum, a position he considered an honor because his father had been a friend of the president. In 2001 he was elected president of the American Lung Association." Includes his picture.
